Thanks to all respondents on my earlier paired postings "Problems with Lattice
C." I've received a lot of help on both "Legal" and "Technical" difficulties.
Concensus on the legal side seems to be "just call Lattice, explain the situa-
tion, and they'll tell you what you can/should do." Apparently they're quite
a company, because everyone's been making a point of telling me how nice they
are to deal with. I'll be sure to mention this when I call them, just so they
know how they're doing. Only ONE person who wrote me said anything illegal
had transpired, and I'm not entirely sure he understands the original situa-
tion OR, in all fairness, that I understand his explanations. I guess I'll
settle for waiting til I find out where I stand, before telling Lattice MY
name and address! :-)
On the "technical problems" with using the compiler, well, the "can't find
CloseScreen" problem was immediately, and as it turned out correctly, diag-
nosed as the presence of a non-printing, non-space character at that point in
the source file. I edited the file, removed whatever invisible thing was
there, restored the CloseScreen call, and it compiled and linked without a
burp beyond the "invalid tag" WARNINGS.
However-- now that the CloseScreen call is back in the program, the GURU
visits when the program ends and closes its resources. Since this is a
published program, it seems unlikely to MY naive eyes that there's a problem
in the code, so I'm going to re-type it and see if that fixes it. But then,
what about the "LED Clock" program I downloaded from our local archive, that
does the SAME thing when I click it's window's Close gadget? SOMETHING is
not right here. It's not my machine, specifically, since I've tried this on
a friend's also, with the same results.
Short answers only, and only if you read this within, say, the next three
days (it's Thursday the 25th as I write this). Gotta keep head-above-water
in my mail file! :-)

PS - haven't looked yet to see if it made it to the Net, but last night my
friend and I were in a weird mood after playing with Deluxe Paint, and
we posted a picture... I would like to officially note that the por-
tion proclaiming "Death to..." is meant to be FACETIOUS!!!! I.e. don't
take it seriously and flame the daylights out of us...
