I've been trying to get a message to Pat White to get the correct addresses for comp.sources|binaries.amiga and my mail keeps bouncing. Look at the "WHY" line in this latest - it's a trip! That's exactly how it came back to me! If anyone can help with this, I'd appreciate it. I also wanted the moderators to get a look at it, lest there be some "funny business" going on. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- From uucpadm Fri Aug 26 13:38 EDT 1988 >From rayssd!Postmaster Fri Aug 26 13:38:26 1988 remote from galaxia Received: by amanpt1.zone1.com (4.12/smail2.5/09-28-87) id AA27550; 26 Aug 88 13:38:32 EDT (Fri) Received: by rayssd.RAY.COM ; Fri, 26 Aug 88 10:36:34 edt Message-Id: <8808261436.AA02575@RAY.COM> Date: 26 Aug 88 10:36:24 EDT (Fri) From: Postmaster@rayssd.RAY.COM Subject: failed mail To: galaxia!amanpt1!mrr ======= command failed ======= COMMAND: address resolution ('ain' @ 'j.cc.perdue') failed WHY: Perdue is a chicken, Purdue is a university. ======= standard error follows ======= ======= text of message follows ======= >From galaxia!amanpt1!mrr Fri Aug 26 10:36:24 1988 Received: from galaxia with UUCP by rayssd.RAY.COM ; Fri, 26 Aug 88 10:36:14 edt Received: by amanpt1.zone1.com (4.12/smail2.5/09-28-87) id AA27154; 26 Aug 88 06:55:49 EDT (Fri) From: mrr@amanpt1.zone1.com (Mark Rinfret) Message-Id: <8808261055.AA27154@amanpt1.zone1.com> To: ain@j.cc.perdue Date: Fri, 26 Aug 88 6:55:42 EDT Subject: no subject (file transmission) X-Mailer: Elm [version 1.5] >From root Wed Aug 24 19:17 EDT 1988 >From rayssd!a.cs.uiuc.edu!MAILER-DAEMON Wed Aug 24 19:17:44 1988 remote from galaxia Received: by amanpt1.zone1.com (4.12/smail2.5/09-28-87) id AA23926; 24 Aug 88 19:17:50 EDT (Wed) Received: from a.cs.uiuc.edu with UUCP by rayssd.RAY.COM ; Wed, 24 Aug 88 17:27:43 edt Received: by a.cs.uiuc.edu (UIUC-5.52/9.7) id AA26889; Wed, 24 Aug 88 16:15:18 CDT Date: Wed, 24 Aug 88 16:15:18 CDT From: MAILER-DAEMON@a.cs.uiuc.edu (Mail Delivery Subsystem) Subject: Returned mail: Host unknown Message-Id: <8808242115.AA26889@a.cs.uiuc.edu> To: galaxia!amanpt1!mrr@rayssd.RAY.COM ----- Transcript of session follows ----- 550 s.cc.perdue.edu using tcp... 550 Host unknown 554 s.cc.perdue.edu!ain... 550 Host unknown ----- Unsent message follows ----- Received: by a.cs.uiuc.edu (UIUC-5.52/9.7) id AA26869; Wed, 24 Aug 88 16:15:18 CDT Received: from galaxia with UUCP by rayssd.RAY.COM ; Wed, 24 Aug 88 17:01:57 edt Received: by amanpt1.zone1.com (4.12/smail2.5/09-28-87) id AA23249; 24 Aug 88 08:39:38 EDT (Wed) From: mrr@amanpt1.zone1.com (Mark Rinfret) Message-Id: <8808241239.AA23249@amanpt1.zone1.com> To: ain@s.cc.perdue.edu Date: Wed, 24 Aug 88 8:39:30 EDT Subject: Need Addresses X-Mailer: Elm [version 1.5] Pat - did you get my posting of MRBackup, V2.4? I'm beginning to believe that you didn't and would like to correct the situation. I was relying on my news forwarding mechanism ("Blah newsgroup is moderated...your posting will be forwarded...etc.") to get it to you, but a check of the spooled files revealed a "gatech" address (?!). Looks like I need to update something. Would you please give me the sources/binaries mail addresses? I'll add 'em to my alias list. Thanks. Mark Rinfret -- < Mark R. Nope, no funny business is going on. A man named Frank Perdue runs a business in (I'm told) the eastern United States that supplies chickens (for food--I assume they are prepared). However, the moderators you know and love (not to mention chide, from time to time) are at Purdue University. Note the difference in spelling. In the quoted text above the address (referring to the university, not the chicken guy) is misspelled. Needless to say, this happens quite a bit. I guess that some of the sites that have to deal with this particular mistake often have come up with some original ways of dealing with it. I find this one rather amusing (I have to deal with it myself, sometimes). The official submission addresses are: For binaries: amiga-binaries-request@j.cc.purdue.edu For sources: amiga-sources-request@j.cc.purdue.edu Also, if you want to address questions, comments or war stories to the moderators, they can be reached at: Pat White: ain@j.cc.purdue.edu Rob Tillotson: sentinel@killer.dallas.tx.us, and, soon, others Brent Woods: woodsb@killer.dallas.tx.us Remember, if you want chicken, go to Frank PERdue. If you want an institution of higher education (i.e., Undue PURversity) write to PURdue. -- Brent Woods, Co-Moderator, comp.{sources,binaries}.amiga USENET: woodsb@killer.dallas.tx.us USNAIL: 320 Brown St., #406 / W.
