For three years now, Amiga user groups from around the world have been meeting and sharing ideas and information about the world's most innovative and remarkable computer. The development of the Amiga community is second to none, our wealth of computing resources unsurpassed. While the various user groups enjoy the fascination the Amiga computer brings, we have yet to share this with the communities in which we live. Until now. The Ottawa Amici Amiga Users Group decided to take ourselves and our Amigas into the community. We have contacted our local children's hospital, and this fall we will be bringing out our 500s, 1000s and 2000s as well as keyboards, video cameras, genlocks, audio digitizers, printers, joysticks and all the appropriate software and allowing the kids to explore the Amiga world. This was originally envisaged as a local project, but recently we have talked to a number of other Amiga user groups in Canada and the United States and they have responded very positively and enthusiastically to this idea and have indicated an interest in holding their own local events on the same weekend. In view of this reaction, we would like to invite and challenge other Amiga user groups to join us on either October 1st or 2nd, 1988 in establishing the first Amiga Community Friendship Day. Virtually every town and city has either a children's hospital or a children's ward in a general hospital, so you could duplicate our community activity. Or perhaps you could visit a seniors citizen's home with your Amigas. You could set up an Amiga games "arcade" at a shopping mall, and donate the contributions to charity. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination. The only criteria is to plan a non-profit group activity using Amigas to benefit your community. So contact your local Amiga user's group and find out if they are planning to participate in Amiga Community Friendship Day. If they haven't heard about it, give them a copy of this flyer. This was conceived and is being undertaken as a grass roots movement. Do something good for youself, your Amiga user group and your community. Lets generate some local, national and international publicity to show that the Amiga name means something special in the computing community. Remember, only YOU and your Amiga will make it possible. -- Godfrey Lee P.O.
