My, things have been quiet the last month or so, haven't they? All the heavy fire seems to have died down, so maybe people won't hit 'k' automatically when they see IPC [InterProcess Communication -- remember?] mentioned. At least I hope not, because I think we're well on the way to an excellent protocol. I took a break for a while to get caught up on other things, but I don't want to let the topic get forgotten. Anyway, my main reason for bringing it up again at this point is to notify people that all the material I've put together on the subject -- C code for IPC modules and demos, plus some docs -- is now available for anonymous ftp from ucbvax. Look in the directory 'pub/amiga/IPC'; the READ_ME there should be a good place to start. Please copy it over to any other ftp nodes you have access to, so that the stuff gets wide distribution. I don't really want to post any more great chunks of code here (or in comp.sys.amiga.tech), though I guess I should get around to sending the central code at least to alt.sources. I've been encouraged by a lot of expression of interest (even from Australia!). The goal now is to get some actual applications out there that use IPC, and to establish some "registered" port names and message IDs. Also high on the agenda is to turn the code into a shared library. -- Pete --
