In response to requests for my info on programs I have gotten a fair amount of email and one reply in the notes. The most useful suggestion for transfer to Mac graphics has been the use of Macview 2.0. I have 1.2 and it supposedly also has the feature to convert an IFF file to macpaint files. I don't have 2.0, but have the older 1.2 filed away so I tried it. It produced a file which via kermit I got transfered to one of our mac's at work, but to no avail, the macpaint applications would not recognize it as a proper paint file. From the notes with 1.2 the author seemed to indicate that the Amiga to Mac feature was added in 1.2, and that he had not tested it, but merely followed Mac techical data on how to do it. My question is since 1.2 is not workable has anyone used the 2.0 version to actually transfer Amiga IFF to the Mac. I am not certain I want to send $10 to the author for 2.0 if it does not work (I have his address with the docs on the 1.2 version). Could someone tell me where I might be able to ftp version 2.0 of Macview so I can try it out, or have any of you out there used it successfully? Also I am interested in getting the Amiga utility to transfer IFF to the GIF format. There are GIF converters for the Mac and this is the other solution suggested in my Email to the way I could transfer to the Mac my Amiga graphics. Again if I could get info on where I could ftp to get a IFF to GIF converter it would be much appreciated.

Sorry 'bout putting this on the net, but the sender's machine denies his existance. About transferring graphics from Amiga to Mac and vice-versa: Macview encodes/decodes MACBINARY encoded macpaint files, not the data-fork or resource-fork of a raw paint file. Furthermore, it matches against both the creator and type of the file, not just the type, thus it only encodes/decodes Macpaint files. To transfer an arbitrary paint file from the mac to the amiga, first make it into a Macpaint file (use resedit, read it into Macpaint and save it or whatever). Then use a Mac terminal emulator that supports macbinary xmodem transfers (like Freeterm, Red Ryder, MacTerminal...) and send it to an Amiga terminal emulator using straight xmodem. Macview should be uable to read this. Do the reverse to transfer graphics from the Amiga to the Mac. I really think you'll do better using GIF to transfer to the Mac II (you'll at least preserve color). -------

Thanks for the info. I sent a reply to you email, but in case it bounces like it always seems to do I am replying here also. I used binary transfer, did not realize I needed to use the macbinary portion of my emulator on the Mac we were testing. Will give it a try. Again much thanks for the info.
