REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW I just recieved my TidBit 2400 modem from USA*FLEX (aka Comark). It cost $131.20 w/ shipping and COD, and it does everything I need and expected, but some things don't quite work as they say in the manual... First of all, the manual says that you MUST have a cable that carries all 25 pins. THIS IS NOT TRUE. I am now using it on a cable that only has four wires! Next, there is a DIP switch to tell it to either ignore or use the DTR. As far as I can tell, this switch has no effect, the modem ALWAYS ignores the DTR line. Third, the modem has non-volatile ram to store one phone number, and a number of parameters. The number stores away just fine, but NOT the S registers. hmm... The Factory defaults are supposed to include setting the auto-answer mode not to answer (to 0 rings), but when I turn the modem on, it comes on with the AA light lit. Sending an "AT S0=0" to the modem shuts it off. I called Comark to see if maybe I had a defective modem, and the tech. assistance man told me that he would contact the manufacturer & get back to me. I will update you if I do have a defective modem. But other than the above problems, I really do like the modem. Its very tiny (It comes with velcro to strap it to your computer, its that light!) and, so far, every transmission has been error free. It detects busy signals, has a built in speaker and is very *CHEAP* -Dan P.S. Within a week, my ByteBox & Thomsom green monitor should arrive, and hopefully I'll do a review on both of them. +-----------------------------------------------------------+ | ______ | | || |o| Daniel Zenchelsky -- dzenc@hermes.ai.mit.edu | | ||___| | | | | _ | "If it's not in the computer, it doesn't exist" | | \_[]_|_| | | | +-----------------------------------------------------------+
