My A1000 is still sick: every time it gurus or I give it the three fingered neck pinch, it asks me for a KickStart disk. Using REBOOT, posted on the Net long ago, I did a soft reset in software... i.e. the WCS is _not_ corrupt, and the checksum does _not_ fail. I am sending the offending board off to Spirit for repair, since the repair was not satisfactory. In the meanwhile, I bought an A500 for $450 (local dealer price $550 - $100 for old VIC-20), and am still getting used to it. I am planning on moving the hard disk from the A1000 and installing it on the A500, via a WEDGE 500, and had some questions about expansion... 1) Where can I get an A500 power plug? I don't mind using a different power supply, but I must have a way to hook it up without destroying my old supply. 2) What is a _good_ memory expansion product (besides the A501). I have used the Spirit InBoard, and found it fine. Are there any reputable 2 Mb/8 Mb boards out there? (Yes I KNOW how much DRAMs cost!) 3) Assuming I get a power plug... will 8 Amps @ +5v be enough to run lots of extra RAM chips? I have a spare A1000 supply I bought for $20... will I want to get a PC/XT supply instead? Please respond via e-mail...the whole world does not care about these questions.
