I have not received _one_ reply on my request for information on the new viruses. As I said in a previous posting, I am looking for more recent information for a user group newsletter followup article on Viruses. PLEASE send me anything on any virus which is newer than {SCA, LSD, ByteBandit}. For all those viral detector authors: I have several uuencoded bootblocks, including one which checks the coolcapture() and resident() on bootup, warning the user of any viruses present in memory. I am looking to swap bootblocks. One of my goals is to inform novice users of the effects of all known viruses, so that they know what to look for, and do not blame the hardware or the software. The _one_ virus which got me (for 2 hours), was the Byte Bandit virus. I use only one boot disk, so the virus saw what it thought was several infected disks (multiple insertions/reboots), and triggered _very_ quickly. Fortunately, I recognized the symptom of the machine freezing up suddenly as a sign of a virus, and stomped it within minutes. Had I not known how to recognize the Byte Bandit, I might have blamed my hardware. Please help me to educate users who do not have access to technical fora; send me your odd bootblocks, or at least descriptions of how the newer viruses spread and trigger.
