[comp.sys.amiga] Fterm under dnet

yuan@uhccux.uhcc.hawaii.edu (Yuan Chang) (09/29/88)

Hi. Is there a simple way of expanding the fterm window in dnet to
something wider than 77 characters accross? I want to be able to play
nethack on a fterm window 8)...

Hmmm ... all I do is grad the window sizing gadget and make it bigger. It
automatically fixes the TERMCAP entry on the Unix end. Am I doing something
_right_ or is Yuan doing something _wrong_ ??

Inquiring minds want to know!

On the topic, has anything been done to dnet since the first release???
It's what I use almost exclusively ( expecially when I get my 2400 baud
modem in a couple of days ... ) EXCEPT for transfering files ...
I don't really have time to write stuff for it, but I may if no one else
has ... the possibilities are really neat!

Here's what I use. This gives me 23x88 characters. Would have put the font in
FTERM itself, but I didn't have the fterm library code. The script here has
worked just fine for me. A pre-release of the latest SetFont is included.
You'll want to uudecode to get an ARC file.

There is a freeware program called "vscreen" which will give up to a 1000 x
1000 pixel screen size (not all visible at once). I use it regularly for
wide emacs windows over dnet. This program probably won't work with 1.3
as it uses unofficial system calls. Interestingly, when using this program,
wiconify only works when viewing the "home" portion of the screen (upper
left corner).

There are also various overscan programs like morerows which will give
you a few more characters of line width.

I use morerows to expand my screen size (77 chars across is a limit
of the screen size, given that fterm has borders). Once you do that,
you can use the resize gadget to expand the size (I can get up to
85x27).

Here's what I use. This gives me 23x88 characters. Would have put the font in
FTERM itself, but I didn't have the fterm library code. The script here has
worked just fine for me. A pre-release of the latest SetFont is included.
You'll want to uudecode to get an ARC file.

Hmmm ... all I do is grad the window sizing gadget and make it bigger. It
automatically fixes the TERMCAP entry on the Unix end.
