[Line eater food ] Help!!! Hey folks here's the scoop... The other night I was using my A500 and it decided it was gonna trash the development disk I was using.. (NDOS) I fixed the disk but the machine kept saying that disks that were write protected were NOT DOS DISKs. I got frustrated and did the Amiga Salute only to have my A500 not recognize ANY of my workbench disks. Of course I was upset, so I took it to my local repair shop and they said that they didn't have the faintest idea what was wrong. Does anyone have any hints at what the problem could be?? The repair shop said that they've had 3 A500's come in with this problem and could never fix any of 'em. Please help, I've only had my A500 for 8 months and really don't have the money to buy another. PS I'm using a friends account (mine got trashed) but you can still send replies here, but I would prefer if you could use the one in my signature. The local repair shop failed to fix it twice (They just replaced the drive twice). I like you was screwed out of the ~600 bucks I spent on my A500. But, we all know by now that C= doesn't promise to actually sell you a working computer. ##!@#@?! Eventually I opened the thing up and fixed it myself. It's a bit of a hack, but the thing has been working flawlessly for about five months now. All I had to do was break the ground connection between the two rear standoffs on the drive body and the A500 motherboard. Two nylon screws and two nylon washers will suffice. Also you might want to add a washer to the front leg ou the drive to keep it nice and level when you tighten things down. You might also want to break contact between the rf shielding and the drive body. My drive works fine with the nylon hardware installed and doesn't work worth a damn with those two rear legs touching the motherboard ground. If your not comfortable with hardware, maybe you can convince your local repair guy to give it a shot. What have you got to lose? By the way the case of my drive is still grounded, but only through the ground strap that connects it to the keyboard. Since I'm having no trouble with mine now I'm not inclined to open up again and go probing around the grounds with a scope. If anybody out there has done so, please write and tell me what you found.
