Well, life is full of surprises! :-) It isn't the interface! It *is* the filesystem. This is true as far as ESDI,SCSI,ST506/412 comparisons go (though SCSI is rated a little faster) as the disk technology itself goes at about the same speed... Even RLL doesn't make much of a difference. Now This is a general INTERFACE comment and has absolutely nothing to do with the controller technology (polled vs DMA, brand, etc...). OR SUN machines are not noted for their IO bandwidth. (Can you tell I've been reading Jo Clayton?) -Matt
