[comp.sys.amiga] How do font styles work?

sdl@linus.UUCP (Steven D. Litvintchouk) (10/20/88)

The manual that comes with Enhancer (AmigaDOS) v1.3 discusses fonts,
which reminded me that I never really understood them very well. On
page 6-3, it says: "When the system finds a specially designed italic
font, it will use it instead of trying to create its own."

But I have never been able to organize my FONTS: directories so as to
get this feature to work! Suppose I have designed a 14-point normal
Roman font, and a 14-point italic Roman font. What filenames do I
give these? Do I put them both in the Roman directory? Is there
anything special I need to do to the Roman.font file in order to
indicate that there are two different 14-point font styles available
on disk? Do programs like Notepad and ProWrite know what to do in
such cases?
