I have been trying to connect my 2 expansion memory boards to the Amiga 1000 bus. One is a Technisoft Ramboard 2 (2 Megs with separate power supply). The other is a Microbotics Starboard II (mine has 512K). Both devices have pass-through. Both work fine when connected to the Amiga by themselves. Both have Auto-Config. I have had no success in making them work together. When I put them together on the bus, Kickstart (1.2) fails. Everything is normal until about the time when the request for the workbench disk should appear. (I believe this is the stage when the Amiga tries to identify the devices on the bus). Instead of the request for Workbench disk, I get a grey screen. With the order: Amiga + Starboard + Ramboard the screen cycles through 3 shades of grey, and the disk drive spins occasionally. With the order: Amiga + Ramboard + Starboard I get one fixed shade of grey. I had the PAL chips grouded -- no change. I replaced the J & K 18L8A PAL chips with 16L8B PAL chips from C-Ltd -- again no change. Microbotics tells me that the Technisoft board is probably making alot of bus noise. Technisoft no longer exists. Have any of you had success in getting such a combination to work? I have read that in some devices cutting the trace from pin 11 on the 86-pin expansion to pin 1 of a PAL chip may solve the problem. Does anyone know more about this? Please reply by Email to me at AWKSG@UOTTAWA.bitnet as the distribution of comp.sys.amiga I get on bitnet takes several weeks, and is severely censored (moderated). Thanks in advance for any help, Alan Kelm (Universite d'Ottawa, Canada). AWKSG@UOTTAWA.bitnet
