[comp.sys.amiga] Model numbers

U211344@HNYKUN11.BITNET (Olaf 'Rhialto' Seibert) (10/31/88)

Why didn't Commodore-Amiga use the following model numbers?
I would think they are much more interesting than the exising
numbers. A2001 for the main computer, A2040 for an external floppy,
A2024 for a printer, some Epson machine with Commodore label,
A2N for a tape backup system. And an A2090 hard disk controller
including a 90M hard disk.
Also, the A2001 should then include an IEEE-488 interface, like
they are being advertised for PC's as an add-on.
An A2001 loaded with a full 8 meg of RAM could be called A2008.
Nobody would *ever* need more memory than an A2008 supplies.

                                                                   :-)

Hee hee... BTW, was it the work of the Devil that a VIC-20 and a TRS-80
Model I each have exactly 3583 bytes free when powered on? Or perhaps
it was a Communist plot? Slime creatures from outer space?

Isn't that how an 8K PET used to boot up?

Or is that what happens to a 2M Mac-II after you start two
applications under MultiFinder?
