The following is a copy of a Bell Labs Memo for Supervision: ----- October 20, 1982 PRODUCT DEFECT NOTIFICATION: FIRE HAZARD WITH SOME TEKTRONIX TERMINALS ----------------------------------------- Bell Labs has been advised by Tektronix, Inc., that certain computer display terminals pose a fire hazard. The material used in the shield that insulates the power supply of these terminals is flammable. If you have a Tektronix 4014, 4104-1, 4015, or 4015-1 terminal, bearing a serial number ranging between B-10100 and B049999, please notify ... <local WH person>. She will obtain a replacement insulating shield and provide simple instructions for its installation. According to Tektronix, the terminals can be used TEMPORARILY if we take precautions to turn them off: o when they are left unattended o if there is any sign of smoke or overheating. ----- I have NO additional info about this. If you have such terminals, talk to Tektronix, don't call me. Andy Tannenbaum Bell Labs Whippany, NJ (201) 386-6491
