From: macdonald@mtwain.dec.com (Paul MacDonald - CUP/ML - 223-3439) >I've been having difficulty getting a second 42Mbyte hard drive to >PREP. I presently have a 5.25" 42 Mbyte NEC drive (ST-506) hanging >off the A2090 controller card. It is partitioned as DH0: and DH1:. >DH1: is formatted as an FFS device. This drive has been performing >flawlessly. The problem is simple (I hope). According to the 2090 users' manual, dh0: is assigned to the first partition of the first ST-506 unit, dh1: is assigned to the first partition of the second ST-506 unit, dh2: is assigned to the first partition of the first SCSI unit, etc. Before adding the second ST-506, it was okay to name the second partition dh1: because it was not previously assigned, but once you added the second ST-506, it became dh1:. You cannot assign the first partition of the second ST-506 dh2: because it is assigned dh1: by the system and dh2: will be used by the first SCSI drive you add. Solution: Change your mountlist so that the FFS partition of the first ST-506 is called FAS: (or any name other than dhx:). Best of luck. -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- || c o m m o d o r e || _ __ __ ___ _ Coniah Chuang || /\\ |\ || || / \\ /\\ Envoy100: Chuang.C || / \\ |\\ /|| || || __ / \\ Usenet : Coniah@ccami.UUCP || /__ \\ | \\ / || || || || /__ \\ Snail : 1322 East 59th Ave. ||/ \\| \X || || \__||/ \\ Vancouver, BC V5X 1Z1 -------------------------------------------------------------------------
