[comp.sys.amiga] Parts for the Lucas Board

rsexton@uceng.UC.EDU (robert sexton) (11/03/88)

I just read the files on the Lucas accelerator project, and It sounds really
terrific. Anybody out there want to suggest a good source for the Motorola
chips? In the back pages of BYTE, I see Advanced computer Products
selling 16 Mhz 68020/68881 for $250 and $220 respecively. Thats $470!
Surely there is a cheaper source for these chips. Is it possible to
get a discount on a small order, Say 5 of each? If so, Anybody want
to go in together? Long live Cheap MIPS.

I was also looking around for parts for the Lucas board today while at work..

I found that ARROW (a mail order company - A large one at that) sells the
68020 for $220 and the 68881 for $172.. That's still better than ACP
(Advanced Computer Products).. Gee, I wonder if you could call up Motorola
and tell them you are working on a school project and ask if they would give
you a 16Mhz 68020 for educational purposes??

Several months ago, Hamilton Avnet offered a package consisting of a 68020,
68881, MMU, 32K of fast static RAM, and a couple of other glue type chips,
all for ~$325 single quantity, cheaper for 5 or 10 quantity.

Does anyone know if this offer has expired?

Wow, that would have been a bargain, but it was really this:

	Motorola MC68020 Developers Kit - $399
	Includes:
		1 16 Mhz 68020 and manual
		1 16 Mhz 68881 and manual
1 16 Mhz 68851 and manual (all mine were XC parts)
		1 4K of 35ns static RAM
		2 8 Bit A/D converters
1 Thick looseleaf notebook full of app notes for all the
		above and more.

It was quite a bargain anyway - I picked up about three of them a year-1/2 or
so back. You'll have to call your local Hamilton Avnet to find out if they're
still available.

I just got off the phone with the guy from the local one ( in Mississauga
Ontario ). He's sending me the info on it, but it is still $399.

For people in the immediate area, anyone interested?

Anyone interested in a 68851, some static ram and A/D converters??? :-)
