[comp.sys.amiga] Virus jokes

papa@pollux.usc.edu (Marco Papa) (11/05/88)

The lastest UNIX virus seems to be great news: Johnny Carson had 3 jokes
about the virus on the Tonight Show. The best one was:

"We now have to put a condom on our Macintosh"

Actually the best one was made by Dennis Miller on SNLive:

"Just remember that when you hook up to a computer you're hooking up to
all the computers that computer has hooked up to in the last 5 years."

Incedentally, one of the protections from the latest UNIX virus is
called a condom - it's a file with permissions 0. It has the same name as
one of the original files the virus needs to start itself up. The virus
comes in (no pun intented) tries to write that file and boink...it bounces
off. Cute, huh?

Another anomaly is the sun2 was apparently immune to this version. So for
all those sites that had relegated an old sun2 as the uucp connection
to the outside world, I guess they were spared.

Although I do contract work for Amiga-LosGatos, my opinions probably
don't represent those of Commodore or its management or its engineers,
but I think the world would be a better place if they did.
