Re: the increasingly growly A1000 fan ... You may wish to power down your system, remove the fan, clean the crud from the fan's blades, reinstall the fan, and power up your system again. I've discovered that atmospheric contaminants tend to accumulate on and around the fan unbalancing it (causing perturbations, wobble and noise). I clean mine approx. once a year (3 times now since 1985) and each time the fan reverts to near inaudibility. When your system is open, you may wish to remove the crud that accumulates around the mouse ports, the expansion connector, and the internal floppy (all of which are the "air entry" points).
