[comp.sys.amiga] Bug in asdg-low-mem.library ?

keithd@gryphon.COM (Keith Doyle) (11/07/88)

After a previous poster's note on the Projector (from the Director)
causing a task held requester, I looked into things a little further.

We have had a few reports of this happening, and in every instance
the user was using FACC-II.

After further testing, we were able to reproduce the failure multiple
times without even using the Projector.

Running FACC-II and asdg-low-mem.library, this simple procedure will cause
the task held requester *periodically*. Unfortunately the problem is
sporadic, and can take a couple of tries to reproduce.

	1. warm boot
	2. loadwb -debug
	3. open some windows on floppys (we also opened some hd windows as
well, but I don't believe it matters too much)
	4. do a "flushlibs" from the WB debug menu

After removing the asdg-low-mem.library, we were unable to reproduce
the problem. Our testing was done under 1.3, but other reports we've
had were 1.2 based.

In addition, we were using RAD:, Dillon's Shell V2.07 and the 1.3
shell-seg was resident in our tests, but weren't in the other reports
we've had.

I would be interested in any other reports people who are running
the asdg-low-mem.library might have, I seem to remember someone
else posting a note about problems with it as well.

Keith,

It seems to be a known problem that FaccII and the low mem library will
cause task held requestors and gurus. I got this on a pretty vanilla
system with no other special software running concurrently. The only
solution I'm aware of is to run FaccII without the low mem library.
