About 1 week ago I posted a request for A1000 fan replacement information. From the e-mail replies it seems several others are having similar A1000 fan problems. After having opened my A1000 and cleaned out the dust & grime, my fan was quieter for a few hours. (Thanks for the suggestion Thad. Alas, all is not well.) The slight continuous rumble and an occasional rattle every 20 or 30 seconds have returned. I did a little calling around and received quite a surprise. A reportedly honest repair shop in the area wants $135 for a new power supply, WITH trade-in!!! (+$25 for installation which is O.K.) Furthermore this repair person asserted that the problem was really in the power supply, not the fan alone. This is a bit silly since the fan is marked with 115V, 50/60Hz, 4/3W (made by ETRI). The only thing it needs to use in the power supply is the line switch! My questions are (CATS folks, are you "listening"?): --> (1) Is that $135 accurate? (Correct within a reasonable markup?) --> (2) Does the fan use anything more than the line switch? I will sumarize any good answers and post here. Those people who have already expressed interest I will contact by e-mail. Thanks [P.S. Last February Bryce posted an (800) number for ordering a power supply. They no longer carry the item.] -- INTERNET: korz@garfield.cs.columbia.edu -- s-mail: 450 Computer Science Bldg., Columbia University, NY, NY 10027
