[comp.sys.amiga] More Beginner Questions.

leo@bigboy.wyse.com (Leo) (12/02/88)

At the risk of great flames I'll ask these questions anyway. I've
been reading this group for over a year, but since I've only
had my amiga for about a month I didn't pay attention before.

I read News from a UNIX box, thus I can save, uudecode and
uncompress files here at work. I'm currently using communicator 1.3
to copy the files from work to my amiga at home. It works but has
some problems when doing xmodem transfers.

I have arc on my amiga at home so I can decode some files.

	The Questions:

I have an amiga 2000, 3Mb mem, GVP 0k controller and st157 disk.
Why can't I get preferences to set up interlace. I click on the
on field, it changes color and I tell preferences to save or use
the setting. Nothing happens, then on upon reboot. Changing any
other field causes the desired effect. What is the trick to get
	an interlaced workbench?

What do I need to make ".zoo" programs useable. Is ther a utility
called zoo? If so could some kine soul send me the object for it?

Also There was mention of a "rzsz" package a short while ago.
Could someone please send this also, I'd really like to be able to
	batch transfer files to/from home/work.

Thanks. This newsgroup is almost reason enough to recommend the
	AMIGA.

I am assuming that you are booting from a floppy in df0:, and that the
startup-sequence on your boot floppy reassigns all of the assignments to
your hard disk (most particularly DEVS:). Therefore, when you save out of
Preferences, you are saving onto DEVS:system-configuration (which is on
your hard disk, dh0:), but it is DF0:devs/system-configuration that is
used at boot time. You need to copy the file systemp-configuration from
dh0:devs to df0:devs. If you have the 1.3 enhancer, there is an icon
provided in the "prefs" directory to do the copy for you using IconX.

ZOO is a different "ARC"-like program, that is in many way superior to ARC.
It (and a lot of good public domain and shareware software) is available on
"Fish Disks", available directly from Fred Fish (watch for his postings), or
from most good Amiga stores. H.T. Electronics in Sunnyvale is close to you,
and has most of the 160+ disks for a nominal (copying) fee (about $3.50 each).

I think that these are also available on a Fish Disk.
