I just got my 1.3 OS this weekeend, and have been playing around trying to make things work properly. My machine is Amiga 1000 (no half brite) Supra 4x4 with 30 Meg hard disk Starboard 2 memory expansion w/ 512K The Supra is divided into 2 partitions, 10 Meg (cyl 0-201) and 20 Meg (cyl 202-599) I have tried telling the partitioning program "SupraFormat" that both partitions are using the new fileystem. However, their mount command doesn't work. It will not mount. No errors however. There is the requisite "l:newfs" that they want. I also tried to mount dh0: with mount. This does work, however, every so often the machine completely hangs with the hard disk light on. Has anyone had any luck with either using the "SupraMount" command to use the FFS, or know of tricks for a normal mount? If necessary, I can get my mount list. No, there is no PAL grounding on this machine, I don't think that it would make a difference. thanks much brian moffet -- Brian Moffet {uunet, decvax!microsoft, ucscc}!sco!brianm -or- ...sco!alar!brian "Evil Geniuses for a better tomorrow!" It has given trouble from the very beginning when he went to the fast file system. It appears that SupraMount will NOT work if you use FastMemFirst. This took quite a bit of playing with to discover. The Supra installation software if allowed to complete will send the 2000 into a guru when the fast file system is set up. I truly do not understand why Supra would chose to NOT use the standard mount command or mountlist. It is truly annoying. I had SOME success with the fast file system when I removed FastMemFirst. It no longer guru's but sometimes executables are no longer executable... Anyway, I know one hard disk manufacturer I plan to stay away from. Supra, are you out there? >thanks much >brian moffet >-- >Brian Moffet {uunet, decvax!microsoft, ucscc}!sco!brianm > -or- ...sco!alar!brian >"Evil Geniuses for a better tomorrow!" re: Brian Moffet's problems using Supra SW with FFS on 1.3 ... From your description (i.e. " ... l:newfs ... ") you're using OLD software. I have 4 systems up and running fine with 1.3, FFS, and Supra 4x4 and all is fine, and others (from comments posted on my BBS systems) have used the SupraConvert even! And one person who was totally unable to get the Microbotics stuff to function with a Quantum HD switched to Supra and is now a happy Amiga HD power user with 1.3 and FFS. You *SHOULD* get the latest Supra software: version 5.1a. Again, from your description, it "sounds" like you're using version 2.4. Besides being available from Supra directly (along with a new printed manual), the 5.1a software is available for downloading from BIX, CIS, GEnie and PLink (per Supra's comments in the ARC files), though I've only seen it on BIX. I have a 1000, so this may not be related to you at all, but i have the Supra 4x4 connected to an ST277N, and i do run FastMemFirst, but it's near the end of my startup-sequence, after SupraMount and mount vd0: . It's always been in that position, so i don't know how any other arrangement acts, but this one has never had any problems. When i first connected the stuff up and booted with the Supra disk, i let it do the formatting, and then i modified the startup sequence, moving FastMemFirst and a lot of other stuff to startup-dh0 (although it was after SupraMount in the original startup). I have been booting with this for about a week now. -Michael mjm@beach.cis.ufl.edu

The beginning of my 1.3 startup-sequence is:
c:SetPatch ; >NIL: ;patch system functions
c:SupraMount
c:addmem 600000 9fffff ; Ronin 32-bit-wide RAM
All my systems are A1000s with either 68010 or 68020/68881, from 6.5MB to
8.5MB RAM (4MB 32 bit wide on the Hurricane-equipped systems), and from 320MB
to 1.5GB HD connected using the Supra 4x4 SCSI Host Adapter with *BOTH* 2.4
and 5.1a SW (several systems are still running 1.2 since it's a pain to
reformat that much HD to get FFS).
HOWEVER: in this area (Silicon Valley) there ARE people using the Supra card
for the A2000 with no problems based on their comments to several local
(again, Silicon Valley) BBS systems.
Your Supra card and/or copy of the software may be "bad"; have you attempted
to contact Clark Stevens or Mark White at Supra? It would probably NOT be
wise to contact CMI directly since they did the Supra stuff under contract.
There are several HD drivers for the Supra that YOU must optionally select;
one of them is ONLY for the A2000. And one can also option the Supramount
program itself with a "-s" to do blind reads for more speed.
The docs from Supra are clear; the only people having (stated their) problems
in this area are those who DIDN'T read the docs and who later red-facedly
admitted that the problems went away after they followed the instructions.
