[comp.sys.amiga] Support from CBM in The Netherlands ]

amichel@neabbs.UUCP (MICHEL LANGEREIS) (12/05/88)

This flame is not supposed to offend anybody except those people
who represent C= - Amiga in The Netherlands

I don't have the illusion this posting will help anybody here to
get better support but I just want to let ya all know whats
the situation here and bring some understanding to some
minds who are wondering why some people ask 'silly' questions
sometimes.

-* Silicon flame burner ready to go in 0 seconds from now *-

A friend of me called CBM a couple a weeks ago to ask some info
about the 'new' A2090a controller, ( at that time all the new items
were announced and availble from almost every dealer in the US )
the guy on the phone stated there was * NOTHING * like a A2090a
controller under development or for sale at this moment.
If he wants more info he had to go to his dealer ( who gets his info
from CBM isn't it ?), the dealer said 'nothing official from CBM
but we read Amazing Computing etc. and don't expect to get it
via legal import' !

Next question to CBM:
------
Him:What about the 2620 card, the one with the 68020 CPU ?
CBM guy: what ?
Him:You know, the plug in card for more power with the 68020
CPU for the A2000
CBM guy: Never heard of, is it an CBM product ?
Him: Yep
CBM guy: That isn't possible because I don't know anything about it
(a bit angry ^^^ )
Him:Well, you know Dave H. ?
CBM guy: Naaaaa, is it a friend ?
( a bit of sarcasm here ^^^ )
Him: NO! its the one who made the board, you know [ some famous names ] ?
CBM guy: No but am I supposed to ?
( angry ^^ )
Him: No but if you're on the Amiga support line its really nice to know
what's on the market from you're company. A little more knowledge
would be nice, programming an Icon (...) doesn't help people much.
CBM guy: Really, I don't have much time for this crap so if you have any
* SERIOUS * question better be quick ok ?
Him: Thanks and a hell of a lot succes with your support line.
CBM guy: click.
------
When I heard this I called the Amiga support line myself because
I didn't believe the story, not all of them can be that stupid,
can they ?
------
Me:Hi this is Mike and I have a couple a questions, do you've time ?
CBM guy: Sure, go ahead.
Me:Do you know of a board for the A2000 with an 68020 CPU on it,
for more Amiga power and the possibilty to get UNIX on the Amiga ?
CBM guy: No, not under development and not for sale. Maybe the
A3000 will have these features but none of the Amiga's currently
for sale or for sale in the next year will have them.
Me: Are you sure ?
CBM guy: Yep
Me: What about the new A2090 autoboot controller ?
CBM guy: What about it ?
Me: Is it for sale or will it be in the near feature ?
CBM guy: No, we don't have autoboot controllers, maybe your dealer ?
Me: He told me to ask you guys, anyway do you know when we can get
the new 1.3 pakage here in The Netherlands, they're selling in the US.
CBM guy: We're testing at this moment and I think, if it comes trough the
test, in a couple of weeks.
Me: Allright, thanks a lot for the info.
CBM guy: You're welcome, Bye.
-------
They ARE stupid, latest news about 1.3 : We're not selling, too many
bugs and we will wait for 1.4.
Holey sh*t, what sort of policy is this ? ME, an Amiga owner since day one
( gray import A1000 with 110V power supply..) is begging for support.
I am FORCED to get ALMOST all the stuff directly form the US, sent in
FOUR reg.cards and DIDN'T get ANY mailing from CBM ( over the time I've
owned a couple of Amiga's, no gray import) while other people
get lots of mail about trade-in offers and more.

Some other facts: You CAN'T buy a A2090 alone, you're FORCED to buy a
set of an A2090 + Seagate ST225 ST506 drive.
Why ? Because they had TO MANY Seagates for their PC's market, and they
couldn't sell them anymore.
You CAN'T buy a PLAIN A2000, only with an Bridgeboard ( XT ) in it, sure
they made a CHEAP price on it but what if I DON'T have the need for
MostStupid-DOS stuff ?

In the biggest national newspaper in the financial section they are
announcing three new computers, the A2500AT, the A3000 ( LSD ? ) and
a new 16 bit game machine ..... Really I think they are doing in drugs,
the article's title was ' CBM wants to go proffesional '.
For heaven sake, if you want to Pro. ok, but NEVER EVER talk about an
new 16 Bit game machine, in the financial section oh my god ]-+

Advertising ? Sure we do, C64 mags are really interesting.
Naaaa, no TV adds because thats gonna cost a lot of money.
( Atari is floating around almost every night at this time,
  next to Apple and IBM)

-------

I'll stop here, this is going to be to long.
I'm glad I've a feed to the net, otherwise I would be one of those
people who smashed their Amiga to the front door of the CBM
building and get a 3* the price of an Amiga MACII.

The Amiga is a GIANT machine, state of the art and many things
others are still missing, BUT with no support in the country you
bought it it's a pain in the ass and a shame to have that
((*(*(#(**#!! C= Commodore logo on ALL you're computers.

I'm frustrated,
				Michel Langereis.

It's the same problem here in Germany. They are selling enough C64/128 and
PC's so why should they care about the Amiga. Have a look in any of the
German Amiga Magazines, most Articles and Answers to Questions are just
stupid ! And C= Germany doesn't care !
So I don't wonder that Atari is leading here :-(

Maybe someday they (C= Germany) will learn their lesson, as C= (US) already
has. But that's just a dream.
