[comp.sys.amiga] Dan and I play Sidewinder

dmg@ssc-vax.UUCP (David Geary) (12/13/88)

I bought Awesome Arcade Action Pack a few weeks ago, and was playing Sidewinder
(a great arcade game) in 2 player mode with a friend.

Now, I must admit to a slight advantage - I had played a zillion times - it was
his first. So, after loosing only one ship, I proceeded onto the next level.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrronk!

We both waited while the next level was loaded, I started playing the second
level and got smashed to smitherenes immediately.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrronk!

The first level loaded back into memory for him to play. Of course, he gets
wiped out immediately. Then - guess what?

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrronk!

Yes, the first level gets loaded back from disk.

It wound up taking about 20 minutes to (mercifully) finish the game,
(he never got past level1 - I got to level3), and we spent
19.23 minutes gronking and 0.77 minutes actually playing. (yes, I timed it).

Then, the following ensued: (Dan is my friend, me is me)

Dan: Well, uh, thanks Dave for showing me your neat game. (A SEVERE screwed
up look on face, although I could tell he wasn't trying to let it show)
But I really gotta go - my boy's been sick lately. (Here's where I
got suspicious - Dan has no children).

me: (sheepishly) Yeah, Dan, maybe we should, uh, play again sometime!

Dan: Well, I'm booked up for the next 62 years, but give me a call
in 2055 (ok, so my math is a little off)

It was then that I had an inspiration:

me: Hey Dan, wait a minute. cp df1: vd0: all quiet...

Amy: Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrronk ;-)

Dan: ;-(

me: Ctrl-A-A

Immediately, the game title screen comes up. Play starts quickly.
Of course, I blast my way through level 1. We both hold our breath.
Level 2 appears in 1.06 seconds - no gronks! I get killed, give
joystick to Dan - level 1 appears immediately.

Dan: (Now making himself real comfortable in my "game" chair). Well,
maybe I could stick around and play for just a little longer.

Anybody know how I can get Dan out of my house?

  ;-)
