[comp.sys.amiga] Non Disk SCSI Devices with A2090A

Ata@radc-multics.arpa (John G. Ata) (12/08/88)

The A2090a is capable of attaching multiple SCSI devices. Was wondering
if it were possible to attach a non-disk type SCSI device such as a
streamer-tape. Can this be done??? It appears that probably a device
controller would have to be written to do this. If this is true, does
anyone know where I could get info on how to do this. Of course, if one
already exists, I would be extremely interested in that also.

                              Thanks in advance,
                              John G. Ata

I am very interested in how exactly we could talk to this 2090A card,
does the 2090 support talking to ANY SCSI device, because I would
guess that SCSI tape drives are a little funny to talk to, as opposed to
hard drives.

Man, sure will be better than the sun we have anyways.. everytime that
we write to our SCSI tape, the SCSI disk drive sorta becomes soooooo slow,
because they disable the drive when sending to the tape drive, and I'd
guess about 20% thoughput..... yuk.. glad my account is not on there!

There are a few controllers out there now that support SCSI devices
besides hard drives. The one I'm familliar with (I've got one in
my A2000) is Comspec's. When they did their S/W, they did it
Right. They use a separate SCSI driver that the HD driver runs on
top of. They also have drivers for removable media such as
Bernoulli disks (out for some time) and I believe soon, Quarter
Inch Cartridge tape.
