[comp.sys.amiga] PC Utilities

ngorelic@csm9a.UUCP (Noel Gorelick) (03/16/88)

In the Extras that come with Workbench 1.2, there are some PC
Utilities. The documentation on them is _very_ brief, but from what
I get out of it is that it lets you read and write to 5 1/4 disks,
that can be read by MS-DOS. (Please Correct me if I'm wrong)

Assuming that I have my information correct so far, is it
possible to make 3.5 disks that are read/writable to/from one of the
MS-DOS machines that uses 3.5's? (ie: can I use an amiga written
3.5 disk on an IBM machine that has a 3.5 drive, and vice-versa...)

Yes, but the PCUtils won't do it. There is a program from gold coast
software called DOS-2-DOS that will. (It also reads/writes Atari ST
formatted disks). Since C/A had to write the translation code to talk
to the 5.25" drive I don't know why they didn't extend it to the 3.5"
drive as well.

These opinions are my own and no one elses, but you knew that didn't you.

The company who produces DOS-2-DOS is "Central Coast Software".

Here's a brief PCCopy wishlist for the next release:

1) After a copy completes, when the disk directory is rewritten (if
this is even necessary), don't move it so that the file just copied is
no longer in the window.

2) Allow wildcards and entire directories to be specified.

3) A double click on an icon should initiate the copy operation for a
single file.
