In answer to your question, yes Transactor is out; we just received it on On another Transactor-related topic, re: AMIGA DISPATCHES by Don Curtis, I had two reactions to this article. I am concerned about the general perception that 1000s are no longer prevalent. I frequently see articles, coments, telecommunications arti- cles with statements like "I'm one of the few remaining 1000 owners". Let's not kill the 1000 with misperceptions. Yes, it is no longer manu- factured, nevertheless, it is very much alive. In the AmigaWorld 1987 Subscriber Survey, the 1000 was listed as the "OVERWHELMING MODEL OF PREFERENCE". These stats might surprise you!!! Base = Total respondents (694) Amiga 1000 83% Amiga 2000 5% Amiga 500 5% out of a net 90% Amiga owners. Surveys have many limitations, but it is still a telling statistic.

Regarding the 'killing off' of 1000's: TRUE! There are many 1000 owners out there who will not fork over the $$ for a 2000! I myself would love to upgrade but simply cannot afford it (unless good old Rutgers decides to lower tuition, ha ha ha.) It's a shame that all of the new hardware is being directed at the 2000's and 500's- just page through Amigaworld and look at all the ads. Even the latest flyer from CMO (the special Amiga issue) shows only the 500 and 1000 products. Let's just hope that the new graphics chips don't further alienate us with the newer software coming out... -GEA

Speaking of the lack of death on the A1000 front, does anyone know of a good, cheap Zorro II backplane for A1000's? Basically, something to plug some memory and a hard drive into. Thanks! -- -Colin (uunet!microsof!w-colinp)

And of course no one has bought an Amiga since 1987! I seem to recall something to the effect that there would be 1 million Amigas sold by some point in 1988. Since there were only 140000 Amiga 1000's ever produced, they now occupy AT MOST 15% of a rather small market. -- Morgan W.
