[comp.sys.amiga] stuff ...

"Spitbol?!? You program in a computer language called Spitbol?"

hcmutt@hpcllld.HP.COM (Harry Muttart) (10/22/88)

Yeah,

There really is a Spitbol.

We had an implementation on an IBM mainframe (a long time ago in a place
far, far away). Durn thing was mostly SNOBOL3 but implemented with some
restrictions so that ran much, much faster.

Is there one on the Amiga?

I've used an implementation of Spitbol on a Sperry 1100-series machine.
I could probably obtain sources to it if anyone is interested. If I'm
not mistaken, it was written by a bunch of students at some university
(Michigan, I believe).

Lemme know if anyone would do something with the sources and I'll see
if I can get them.

here is a few stuff which maybe of some interest .

1) to the game designers : pleas put some screen shots on the back of the
box containing the game !!! .
there are some few games which have good boxes but are stupid games .
Ganymed : is it 3-d is it like the arcade game - the empire strikes back ?
noooooooo .... it is just a copy of "revenge of the mutant
                camels" on the 64.
torch <some number> : wow ! it must be like Stealth (broderbund) ....
hmmm ... what ? it is a Qix clone.
CHARON 5 : on the box , one can see a few flying balls . another
arkanoid clone ? cant tell, I didnt see it running ..
so please , a few screen shots is better than a badly drawn picture.

2) what are the songs suposedly containing demonic messages?
I plan to digitize them , invert the data and listen to them .
And without busting the heads of my turn table.

3) Hot licks ....
nice program, but it is H E L L to edit the piece of music unless you
are full blown musician and use sequencers/quantizers as your second
   mean of expression.

4) Paladin :
yuck ... bad game . I had more excitement watching the paint dry.
   why ?
   - to create your character, you have to leave the main program, and get into
     another program (gronk-orama).
   - and whenever you get into the main prg to play the game, you have to
enter the word of the paragraph type of protection .
   - this game might have tons of windows but it is a dog to use.
-WARNING : it is not a Fantazy game !!! it is a war game .
