This is my first real flame. Hit 'n' if you don't wanna see it.
When Manx released SDB I was very impressed. I changed my mind, however,
when I found out that the author had committed the "death sin" to trap the
Alt-button. This means that you were forced to use one of the US-keymaps
to use the debugger fully. With the Swedish keymap there was *no* way
to type '@' for example. The Alt button is vital to get certain normal
ASCII characters like '#' and '@' in most foreign keymaps.
Now Lattice releases CodeProbe. Surely it will work with foreign
keymaps, I thought. Mr John Toebes himself has written an excellent
article in Transactor where he describes how to write programs that
will work on different (and foreign) system configurations. So of
course CodeProbe will work with PAL amigas and foreign keymaps.
Well, I fired up CodeProbe. It opened up using all of my MoreRowed
PAL screen. Nice. Then I followed their simple tutorial with the "lines"
program. At one point the manual said that I should type
d x[1]
I typed it in, but was astonished to find that the '[' and the ']'
didn't come out. Why? The Lattice debugger does not only disable the
Alt-key (as Manx did in SDB). It also disables all Swedish characters
and the '[' ']' '{' '}' keys! (on the numeric keypad with the s keymap)
What is this? 1.1? IBM-PC?
Hey Lattice, this is EMBARRASING!!!
Should it take over *three years* before American programmers will
REALIZE that there are Amigas in other countries too.
I have seen Eruopeans complaining *many* times on the net that US programmers
ignores Europe, but I didn't think this of Lattice.

using keymaps other than usa.
I spoke with tech support at Manx last week, they said that a new, much-improved
version of Aztec C, currently planned to be called release 4.1, is *scheduled*
to come out in March of this year. (It is supposed to produce much better
code.)
Anyway, they have a signon on the net, well!manx where you can report this,
and you could of course call or write them. Since a major release is coming
soon, this would be a good time to get them to fix the problem.
