I warned y'all. Pict3, my 3rd disk of Good Stuff is ready for distribution. It's got some nice things on it, including Kahnankas and Tychoid. It also has an absolutely amazing digitized picture, worth the hassles obtaining the disk all by itself! I'm not kidding. This picture, called "Fashion" has blown away everyone who has seen it so far. You didn't know your Amiga screen had this kind of resolution. Oh -- everything can be run from a 512K machine, but you might have to mess around a lot. Tychoid gurud on exit, and the quality of Kahnankas was decreased, I think. If you have a 512K machine and can't get something to run, drop me a line and I'll offer some hints. (Hint #1 - reboot your machine to a bare-bones CLI. Put nothing in ram: and don't do any addbuffer commands. But do do a stack 10200. If you have "wbdepth", make your work bench screen 1 bitplane, not necessary, but would save memory.) (I was also able to get everything on Pict1 and Pict2 to run from a 512K machine, but I had to mess around there, too. Pict1 has two neat demos, complete with sound. Well, forget the sound. Pict1/movie boingmachine and Pict1/movie birds will run the demos when cd'd to the right place.) Enclosed is the ReadMe file on the disk. It has ordering information. -Joe ================ Welcome to Pict3, Joe Larson's 3rd disk of freely redistributable good stuff. This disk is a little simpler than Pict1 and Pict2. It has only 3 main directories: Animations, Icons and Pictures. Animations contains 2 good animations everyone should have, Kahnankas and Tychoid. I don't know the history of Kahnankas -- it was given to me by someone who got it from someone who got it from JMH Software of Minnesota. Tychoid is a ray-traced animation by John Olsen (I hope I got your name spelled right, John!) It was an entry in the 1988 Badge Killer Demo Contest. Thanks, John. Icons contains more of the neat icons I received from John Vig. The Icons directory is broken into more subdirectories, as you'll see. Note that there is one directory that WorkBench won't show you called "QuestionableTaste". I didn't provide a .info file for this directory as it contains two icons that may offend the sensibilities of the more, um, sensitive out there. If you want to see them, get into the CLI, cd to the Icons directory, and type: copy DeskIcons.info QuestionableTaste.info Then just pop back to the Workbench, pop into the Icons drawer again, and you're all set. Finally, the Pictures directory contains two digitized pictures that were on the same disk as Kahnankas. I think "Fashion" will impress the bejeebers out of you! This picture is worth more than a thousand words and is likely to even impress the non-computer-literates of the world. ------------- Ordering Information -------------- If you want to order disks 1, 2 or 3, you can do so by either sending me $5 (that's five dollars) -or- a disk&SASE (make sure there's enough postage -- I generally use 2 25-cent stamps). Send it to: Joe Larson 6121 St. Croix Ave. N. Golden Valley, Minnesota 55422 ------------- Pict4 and Beyond -------------- Pict4 will be out Real Soon Now. You can order it today, if you like! It will have a few neat pointers you can use (if I can find some way to select them from WorkBench -- my program only seems to run from CLI). I also plan to have a couple more animations -- an old ones this time, El Gato, and whatever else I can dig up. I also have some artwork I received from John Vig, so we'll see if something there looks good. Pict5 will be out shortly after I get enough orders for Pict4 to make my heart glow with the knowledge I'm appreciated. -- When you fall on your head do you land on your feet? Just for the information of those who do not know, the sources of the demos mentioned are: The Kahnankas demo came from the zeroth Badge Killer Demo Contest (1987). I belive it won second place after RGB (could be wrong about that). Fashion was on the New Tek Demo Reel #1, I don't know where they got it. Both are very impressive works of art. --- David
