[comp.sys.amiga] S-VHS input/output to Amiga and monitor

[Scotty, it is a line eater!! BEAM ME U....... ]

If this sounds out in left field, it might be. This is
just a wild idea that I am working on.

I have purchased a S-VHS video recorder recently and I
would like to hook up the S-VHS output of the recorder to
my Amiga's monitor (a 1080). Of course, I can hook up
through the normal VIDEO connection on the monitor's back.
However, the 1080 monitor also has inputs for a seperated
NTSC video signal. What I want to do is connect the S-VHS
output on the recorder to the seperated video inputs on
the 1080. The recorder is a JVC model HR-S8000U. The
S-VHS output is a special four pin connector. I do not
know the pinout of the four pin connector on the recorder
yet (it is not in the manual). I plan to write to JVC to
ask them for it, but if anyone knows it please inform me.
The monitor inputs are RCA type jacks.

According to the manual the recorder outputs the seperated
       video signals as a chrominance(Y) and a luminance(C)
signal. The chrominance signal spectrum is normal(?) NTSC
at 629 KHz. The FM carrier frequency of the luminance
       signal ranges from 5.4 - 7 MHz (seperated Y/C, S-VHS
resolution) and 3.4 - 4.4 MHz (normal composite, VHS
       resolution).

My question, will the 1080 accept luminance signals in the
5.4 - 7.4 MHz range? Or, do I need to build some type of
interface for it, perhaps into the RGB analog port of the
       monitor?

There is also a S-VHS input on the recorder that is a four
pin connector. I would like to be able to use this to
record from the video output of my Amiga(s) (I have both
an A1000 and a B2000). Does anyone know how this might be
accomplished? I would be buffering pictures into memory
(5 MB) to acheive a reasonable playback speed for simple
animations. This is for fun. I am not worried about
getting professional(maybe later) results, but would like
to use the S-VHS resolution mode of the recorder.

If anyone has already done this please send me the
information on the cable and/or interface needed.

       			Thanks,
       				Ray.

Redmond Cable (I'm afraid I don't have their number here) makes
a cable for changing the SVHS Y-C connector to two RCA jacks.
You might give information a call in Redmond Washington and ask
	for their number...

Crearive Microsystems makes a product called the 'VI-500' that
encodes your RGB signal into a pretty clean Y-C signal. Most of
the customers we have seem to be using it for just what you want
to do. The VI-500 should be available at your local dealer, or
through pretty much any of the mail order houses. You can also
get them direct by calling (503) 691-2552 (New number..)

Anyone with plans on the reverse of this? I have a TV with SVHS that
would look like a lot of fun with my amiga on it.

So, I would like a plan to put my amiga to a SVHS TV.

Wow, a Mitsubishi 26 inch monitor for my amiga. I'd love to
see F-18 interceptor on that!!! :-)

Now thats Crearive spelling if I ever saw it!! :) :)
Bill, I just couldn't let that slip by...
If your going to commercialize yourself, at least you could spell it right.
Maybe initials would be easier :) :) :)

I noticed an ad in the latest Amiga World for GEN/ONE a genlock from
Communications Specialties, Inc. that claims separate Y/C output for
S-VHS their number is listed as (516)-273-0404 in the ad.

Disclaimer: I just read the ad, don't know who these folks are.

         Bill, thanks for the answers.

However, Redmond wants $22.00 (ouch!) for the cable. Although
I assume that they use good quality cables and connectors, I
think that is a good $8 overpriced (I could be wrong) for a 4
pin to 2 RCA jacks cable. If anyone has this cable, I would
like to know if you think it was worth the price. If someone
knows the SVHS pinout on the JVC HR-S8000U recorder I can
         hack together a cable.

Also, thanks for the lead on the VI-500 interface. It sounds
like what I am looking for. Do you know the price? I would
         guess around (hope..hope) $25-$40??.
