[comp.sys.amiga] Amigaphile Directory

Classic_-_Concepts@cup.portal.com (01/21/89)

UPDATE: Amigaphile Directory
First, thanks to all those who have provided names/addresses. I thought
you'd appreciate a status report. A general pattern of responses is
emerging, so perhaps this spontaneous format should be standardized a
little, then those receiving the directory could put it into their databases
or address books more easily. Info can be sent as follows:
Name:
Organization:
Address: UUCP: aslkdjlaksfd
            CIS: alskdjfak , etc.
Snail: optional
Phone: very optional
Interests: brief description
Skills: brief description
System: optional
This is a little more than I originally requested, but many are providing
info in this format and it seems practical. To date I have about 60 names.
Of these, about 40 offered encouragement and thanks. A number suggested
that I peel names off the net myself, but there are some problems with doing
this:
         1. I don't have the person's permission to compile/distribute his/her
          name and address.
      2. Many people who would like to be included read the newsgroups but
          do not post.
      3. I don't want to begin to try to surmise a person's interests and
skills, MUCH BETTER that they do that themselves!
Out of the 60 replies, 2 people expressed concern about commercial abuse
of their names. Rest assured that the motivation for putting this list
together is not in any way commercial. The purpose is to create one more
way in which people of like interests can contact each other for info/help/
social activities/programming help and to strengthen the Amiga community.
Io, if you would like to be included and receive a copy, send email to
LadyHawke@cup.portal.com and make a note if your net address is temporary.
Also, what do people think of uploading a copy to usenet in binary when the
preliminary draft is complete? That way people could check listings and
add/change any errors/omissions before a final version is distributed.
Also, I'd really like to include addresses for the Amiga Magazines and,
as per one person's good suggestion, the CATS and other support groups and
Amiga VIP contacts (we have a couple of these already, but could use more).
If you know of these addresses or people, encourage them to get in touch.
