Wow! I leave for two weeks, come back, and find 60 messages and 1500 news articles. Obviously, I was not able to read them all, but did do a search to pick out those with my name in them (instant gratification, my name is bound to come up over 1500 articles!) The majority of the discussion pertaining to me was related to DNet. There was a small stint on DTerm so I'll take that first. Dterm was my second attempt at a terminal program. I really ought to re-release it. It is NOT user friendly, but has a rich command set. Unfortunetly, I only implmented the old XModem-checksum protocol for it so it doesn't compare well to most other terminal programs. Although you can map the incomming and outgoing data stream dynamically, it isn't powerful enough to emulate a VT100. I wrote DTerm a long, long time ago. DNet is a link protocol (it belies its name) which provides a reliable multi-connection link between two computers. It uses a client-server type interface and includes some basic clients/servers to transfer files/directory trees and open up shell windows. Two sets of sources are available: One for an Amiga and one for BSD 4.2/4.3 UNIX. I apologize to all you SysV people, but I neither have access nor experience on SysV machines. I know of at least one person who is actively trying to port DNet over to SysV. In anycase, you can use DNet to connect any combination of the two machines together: amiga<->amiga, amiga<->bsdunix, or bsdunix<->bsdunix. When connecting two amiga's together, FTERM becomes a talk window (of which you can open as many as you want!) rather than a remote csh. (Warning: if you intend to connect your Amiga to somebody else's and do not quite trust him, I suggest you remove the file transfer server from your servers file). Respects to Ameristar: most people do not have the money to invest in a 50KBaud microwave link from their home to the nearest university UNIX machine, But from what I hear, your ethernet/lan stuff is hot. Notice: DCron has bugs. Ucbvax.berkeley.edu : My account went away (all the guest accounts went away). I asked the sysop to delete the archive thinking that I could move fresh material to a new site, but then couldn't find a site, so the archive is back on ucbvax. I will be uploading the most recent versions of most of my programs back to ucbvax over the next couple of days. dnet is already there. Finally, I have at this point responded to all personal email. If you haven't gotten a reply to a message you sent me, please try again. Thanks! -Matt
