It appears that I'm not the only one who has a 2000 with one internal floppy (df0:) and one external floppy (df2:). Frustrations with brain damaged software that wouldn't work quite right with my system forced me to attempt a hack to attempt to make the amiga see the second floppy as df1: instead of df2:. It turns out that it isn't much of a 'hack' at all (i.e. no soldering, hack saws, etc.). I disconnected and disassembled my extrernal drive (model 1010). Then I removed the drive mechanism from the case. At the bottom of the drive, there is a jumper which selects the device number. The 1010 has the jumper set for device 0. I changed it to device 1. Then I opened up my 2000, installed a jumper on the motherboard to tell it that I have a second internal floppy (jumper J301, check your owner's manual). Lastly, I installed the drive mechanism in the second 3.5" bay and hooked up the necessary cables. Well, everything works fine. I now have two internal drives as df0: and df1:. And I have more desk space to boot (no pun intended). If this mod has been discussed before, I apologize for wasting net bandwidth. I've been wanting to do something like this for a long time so I hope this information helps someone. At this point I must add it is possible to damage your amiga, disk drive, and/or yourself by attempting the above and you should do so at your own risk. All I can tell you is that it works for me. If you muck up amiga doing this, you have my sympathies. I've already mucked up my 1000 attempting other hacks. But hey, either you get slapped, or you get laid, that's life. But enough of my philosophical ramblings, if anyone has any questions, don't hesistate to e-mail me. Kamlesh R.
