[comp.sys.amiga] Simple Word Processor wanted

shf@well.UUCP (Stuart H. Ferguson) (02/10/89)

I've been writing alot lately, and I find that text editors I've used are
not complete enough do write prose with. So I'm looking for a simple, fast
word processor. Minimum requirements:

Fast - I'm not a lightning typist, but slow response is distracting.
Simple - don't need a billion options cluttering up my mind.
Std. capabilities - basic editing, cut, copy, paste.
Lots of formatting options - centering, filling, etc. margins on a
		per-paragraph basis.
Printing - using DOS printer driver.
Spell Checker - my speling leeves much to be disired.

I don't need a lot of fonts, but bold/italic/underline is nice. I do need
to be able to "print to a file," but I'm told the 1.3 CMD command will do
this, as long as the word processor sends the formatting information in a
reasonable way out the parallel.device.

I looked at Scribble!, KindWords, excellence!. WordPerfect is too much
and I'm not a student, and I don't like the interface anyway. Scribble!
turned me off because of the cluttered look and non-standard menus
(Archive!? What the hell is "Archive?" - give me New, Open, Save, Save
as...). excellence! simply isn't.

The only one that came close was KindWords. I didn't buy it, however, because
it seemed sluggish, and there was something in there about it not using
the default DOS printer driver. I did like the look, though, and the
menu's were simple and more or less standard. The paragraph formatting does
just what the doctor ordered, and the spell checker and Thesaurus seemed
quite complete. It looks a little like a modern-day TextCraft, and I always
thought TextCraft had a great look so this is fine by me, except that it's
also inhereted TextCraft's (lack of) speed. For those with KindWords, does
it get slower as the document gets longer like TextCraft did?

Looking for info and recomendations. Thanx in advance.
