I just received my UPS package containing the finally released PageStream (formerly Publishing Partner Professional) desktop publishing software. (My copy of my mail order receipt is dated February 8, 1988; over a year in waiting; some folks longer.) Anyway, I haven't had a chance to put it through the paces to any degree yet, however I have been able to guru twice and freeze up once necessitating reboots. No postscript fonts are included. You must purchase their Postscript screen fonts, down-loadable Postscript fonts and additional dot matrix fonts beyond the 6 included. From what I can tell it is faster and in some ways more powerful than gold Disk's Professional Page and very similar but more powerful than City Desk. Soft-Logik appears to acknowledge that they do have bugs in the program and indicate that we the users will probably find more. Don't really know how I feel about that. I don't really mind being a beta, gamma, whatever-tester as long as the software is stable enough to be productive without destroying hours of work, etc. I do think that they have a sincere desire to make the program successful. (I, too, heard many release dates and reasons for it not yet being available over the period of a year but since I've waited, I'll give them the opportunity to show their good faith...) Anyway, I've got a network of Macs running Quark Xpress at my office and although I don't think Amiga DTP software is near the sophistication of Mac's proven programs, I do see hope for the Amiga.
