[comp.sys.amiga] BADGE Killer Demo distributions

rap@ardent.UUCP (Rob Peck) (02/18/89)

The BADGE meeting was held last nite and as a followup to Vince Lee's
flame about prizes, here's the scoop: one of the vendors promised to
deliver two prizes, of some significant value, but most probably did not
promise this in writing. Since the conclusion of the contest, that party
has been unavailable to the prize-collector/awarder/sender. Since those
particular prizes rank highly among the total prize donations, if they
should be removed from the prize distribution, it would require reshuffling
of all of the remaining prizes to even out the prize-value per placement
in the judging. Thus, NO prizes had been sent out, awaiting the eventual
outcome of this vendor contact. I am pleased to report that some positive
action has happened today (one of the BADGE members visited the dealer
personally, showing the press release mentioned below), so resolution
is soon to be at hand.

(For the ZEROth contest, vendors did not necessarily get the publicity
that they expected, so one can understand some hesitancy. However, if
a commitment has indeed been made... )

=======
BADGE has prepared a Press Release, based on Randy Spencer's recent Usenet
posting of the winning entries and prize donations. This press release
will be going to all of the major Amiga magazines for possible printing
in some news kinda column. The first part of the Press Release announces
the results of the most recent contest, and includes a big THANK YOU
to the prize contributors. Needless to say, that particular vendor
will be removed from this listing before the press release is shipped
should things not pan out. We are trying, by this means, to give our
vendors the publicity that they deserve (and sought by offering these
prizes, of course).

That obvious obligation out of the way, the press release (in part 2)
describes BADGE and our goals for the contest in the first place, which
basically boils down to "what will sell the most Amigas" (covered
simply but thoroughly in a considerably modified set of rules for the
next contest, with an official announcement thereof ("whether for
glory or prizes... and the winners get famous") for September of 1989.
On official acceptance by at least one Amiga magazine, we'll also post
the text of the press release here.

Re the duplication of the disks - well that is finally supposed to
happen starting today (Randy Spencer to ship ALL entries to Fred Fish
for possible inclusion in the FF library, and to begin to ship the
top three entries out to prepaid kinda folks). Thats what he said.
Somebody named "Heisenberg" may be helping him duplicate the disks. :-)
