[comp.sys.amiga] Bug found in VirusX V3.10

ins_adjb@jhunix.HCF.JHU.EDU (Daniel Jay Barrett) (02/17/89)

I have discovered a bug in VirusX 3.10. It causes VirusX to
stop responding to everything, though its window remains on the screen.
Here is how to duplicate it:

(0)	Reboot (if desired) so you know your machine is clean.
(1)	From the CLI, invoke VirusX by typing "VirusX".
The VirusX window appears at the top of your screen.
(2)	Click on the VirusX window to activate it.
(3)	[Do this QUICKLY!] Type "i", and immediately click on (and
activate) the CLI window before VirusX has a chance to put up its
	"info" window.
(4)	VirusX puts up its "info" window, but it is BLANK.
VirusX now no longer responds to anything you do. You can't even
kill it by clicking on its close gadget.

I suspect that the program is looping infinitely in the
"WaitForNewSize()" routine, waiting for a message that will never
come.

I have also noticed that VirusX3.10 will not flag non-standard boot block.
This problem did not occur with earlier version of VirusX. Any
suggestions?

I will admit that I have not investigated this problem furthur ... so this
may have been a once-in-a-lifetime occurance. Anyone else notice this?

Steve Tibbett posted VirusX 3.2 (which now handles SIXTEEN different
viruses....{{{sigh}}}}) to People/Link tonite. I gave him the net
message indicating a bug in 3.10 and he said "I'll fix it in 3.2."

Look for 3.2 to propogate out to the world via the usual channels.
