[This note sent to the generic info-amiga Internet address] So, okay, already. What's with these crashes all the way to Kickstart 1.3? I have a 512k A1000 with an external Commodore 3.5" drive. That's it, no fancy flakey hardware addons. I start up using a somewhat modified from the original startup-sequence (the mods involve removing the "other" machine's stuff (wish I had one but I don't), increasing the stack to 25000, starting dmouse, a NewShell, and ending the current CLI. All at 640x400). Nothing more than that. No fancy software, either. In the past, certain combinations of various public software would crash the machine (uGNUEmacs, VT100, and UUCP-stuff (I suspect the GNU one as being a major culprit). They never crashed me back to Kickstart 1.2, though. Why is this happening under 1.3? Is it more "sensitive" to crashes? Why? I thought Kickstart was write-protected (albeit software-switchable...). Complaints/comments have been on the net since early this month. Anyone in the REAL know comment yet? I haven't seen it... And typing of strangenesses...some of my characters are getting swallowed. Never happened before, but if I don't move my fingers fast enough the final character before the <RETURN> gets swallowed. Disappears completely. As if <RETURN> is acting as BOTH <BS> and <RETURN>. And that's not all. SOmetimes (haven't been able to repeat it intentionally but it has happened at least a half dozen times over, say, the last week =========================================================== ...uunet!mimsy!nrl-aic!hengeema!smith / ^^^^^^^^ Russ Smith - a.k.a. | \ |--- Amiga! smith@aic.nrl.navy.mil
