These ramblings are based on my experiences as an Amiga and Mac II user ... WORKBENCH - Have a way of making all files, or those with selected extensions, visible, whether or not they have a .info file "select all" and "new directory" - please, please, please!!! a "kill" program, so that if something can't be stopped (such as the pseudo-3d rotating cube), start the killer, have it pop up a requester, make the screen of the task to be killed current, and click "execute" in the requester. "arrange nicely", completely overriding current icon positions. possible options - select icons to be first few; after arrangement done, swap selected pairs. TEXT WINDOWS this is where the mac really shines. the ability to cut and paste among all text windows is great! example - i am using versaterm and get a directory on a vms system - lots of long directory and file names. to edit a file, i select the directory with the mouse, insert that in a set directory command sent to the vax, select the file name with the mouse, and send that to the vax - all without typing a single character of the file directory or name. another extremely useful mac feature is windows with history. you just scroll them back, and there you are - the text is ready to be grabbed. for example, versaterm keeps the last 2300 lines available. it just occurred to me that true basic (which is a trademark of true basic which is a trademark of ...) allows the output window to be scrolled back - everyone should! ========================================= oh well, that's enough rambling for today. marty cohen (mcohen@nrtc.northrop.com, 128.99.0.1)
