[comp.sys.amiga] Replacement keyboards & IBM PC keyboards

jdc@rama.UUCP (James D. Cronin) (03/18/89)

Some time ago there was a single inquery concerning the use of
cheap, plentiful IBM PC/clone keyboards as a replacement for the
standard Amiga keyboard.

Were there any answers, or is it something that just can not
be done? It sounds like a neat idea. Just think, I could get
a REAL VT-200 style keyboard...

C-Ltd is selling a 101 key AT style keyboard replacement for
the Amiga. I don't know what its feel is like, since I haven't
seen it.

Cltd makes some. I bought one. It was a modified Magitronic AT style.
The AT caps lock was control, and the control keys were the amiga keys.
Numlock was then caps lock. CLtD makes 2 models, an IBM style, and one with
non-programable macros (like dir, list, info, ...)
They reprogram the keyboard processor to send amiga keystreams.
They do not relabel the key's, you have to do that yourself.
The feel of the keyboard is great, and the layout is almost a A1000 style.
I did find one bug, in that the keypad enter was the same as return
(it's not supposed to be.)

I am satisfied with the keyboard however, and it was cheaper than a replacement
A1000 keyboard from commodore. $105 vs $110. I bought it mail order from
Go Amigo.

I have nothing to do with CLtD or Go Amigo except being a customer.
