[net.music] Schoenberg confronts Hollywood composers

Along the same line as the Gershwin - Ravel story:

I read that, when Schoenberg came to this country and wound up as
a professor at UClA, several movie composers approached him about
teaching them composition. They were hoping for instruction in S's
atonal style (presumably for its dramatic possibilities). What they
got was classical harmony and counterpoint. Hmmm...
