[net.general] Little-known humorous English words

rcj (11/19/82)

Anyone ever seen this one before? (I hadn't)

de-fen-es-tra-tion: n. -- An act of throwing something or someone
out of a window. [DE- + FENESTRA]

If you have any words along these lines (little-known and humorous, that
is); please drop me a line. I will report on the interest in net.general
and, if it seems to warrant, I will also suggest a new net group entitled
something like "net.words" or maybe "net.trivia.words".

I ran across defenestration in high school. Seems it was a common
practice in Albania and some other Slavic countries -- that's how
they announced a change in government leadership.
