[comp.sys.amiga] My disk crashing problem

dzenc@hermes.ai.mit.edu (Daniel Zenchelsky) (03/13/89)

I've narrowed my problem down to one or more of the following programs:

dmouse 1.10
virusx 3.20
setpatch
setclock
Facc II
Gomf 3.0

And I have a suspicion that it's Gomf 3.0 that's causing the problems...

I'll keep testing, and see If I can't eradicate the problem.

Thanks for your help,

-Dan

I just recently installed GOMF 3.0 on my system at work. Almost

might have something to do with the fact the disk was getting pretty close
to full, but now I'll pull GOMF out of the system and see if it goes away.
(Note that I haven't had any problem here at home where GOMF 3.0 is *not*
installed...)

Just to add to the confusion, I've been running all of the above
software (and a number of other things) for several months with
no problems.

GOMF has failed to catch errors a number of times, but there haven't
been any unexplained crashes that would make me suspect GOMF 3.0
(software only, I don't buy all their hype for the GOMF button).

I did get some unusual crashes when setting up RAD: and FaccII on my
dad's A1000. With FaccII early in the startup-sequence (before
FastMemFirst and mounting RAD:) I would see complete system lockups (no
guru, everything just freezes) after clicking on a couple of disk icons.

When I moved FaccII further down in the s-s (After FastMemeFirst and
RAD:) everything worked fine. You might be able to solve your problem by
simply re-arranging the order of things in your s-s.

Email to Daniel bounced, so:
Just a reminder: Make sure that setpatch is first in your startup-sequence,
otherwise the system may be in an inconsistent state
- in other words - totally hosed.
