[comp.sys.amiga] Sticky Amiga 1000 keyboard

usenet@cps3xx.UUCP (Usenet file owner) (03/17/89)

I know this went around before, but...
How do you fix sticky keys on a A1000 keyboard??
I am just starting to have problems, but it will likely get worse.

Thanks for any help.

When it went around before someone suggested to grease the keys with olive
oil or something like that.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!! DONT'T TRY THIS OR YOU WILL ONLY MAKE THINGS WORSE !!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did it and it fixed the keyboard for about 2 months. After this the
keys were so gummed up that I had to purchase a new keyboard!

I discovered that keys will stick for two different reasons:
	1) If there is excessive friction bewtween the key shaft and the
	   hole it sticks out of
	2) The key cap (thing you press) is a bit too tight to allow free
movement over the little ridge underneath.

I discovered this after I greased my keyboard since the grease job fixed #1
but did not fix #2. I suspect that #2 can be fixed by whittling a little
piece off the underneath ridge, although I have not tried it myself. I am
not sure of how to fix #1

Yep, and I've answered it before. Proceed thou with haste to your
neighborhood Radio Shack and peruseth the shelves for one 'Tuner cleaner'.
It will have written also on the outside 'safe for plastics', 'cleans and
lubricates'. Pry up said key which doth vexeth and annoy. Spritzeth thou
some tuner cleaner into the key area (it has one of those red tubes which
push into the sprayer head). Lo and verily either it will restore
operation of said key or it is new keyboard time.

The latest Transactor for the Amiga has an article by Don Curtis on how
to clean your Amiga in general. Get a copy, and try it out. (Maybe even
a subscription. It's worth it!)
