[comp.sys.amiga] Shell, Resident, NewCon, & NewShell......

tlm@pur-phy (Timothy Lee Meisenheimer) (03/30/89)

After spend more time than I can afford and rereading the manual 3 times I'm
stuck at getting the new "Shell" that comes with 1.3 to work. I thought I'd try
replacing Matt's shell with the "real" thing from CBM and save some memory.
I've double checked to make sure that all the commands are current 1.3 versions.
In my startup file I "resident l/shell-seg system" which seems to work fine,
startup a newshell and quit my boot-up CLI. Unfortunately this new "shell"
doesn't know what an "alias" is (so must be just the regular CLI right?).
I've tried this using NewCon: and Con:(Conman) and it makes no difference.
I must be missing something and the hotkey combination for dmouse to startup
a new SHELL & CLI window does nothing as well. Could some kind soul give me a
clue? Maybe send me a copy of their startup script that works for them. Also
the prompt command only allows me to put the CLI # and not the current directoryinto the prompt - I assume this is further evidence that I have a simple CLI and
not a SHELL. I hope that in the next release(1.4) the CLI goes away and we
only have the SHEll - the documentaion is very confusing and there seems to be
no need for the CLI.

	Thanks,

	Tim.
