		***** WARNING SEMI-COMMERCIAL ANNOUNCEMENT *****

To NY/NJ/PA Netlanders,
	(All others can ignore)
I had a recent need to seek some professional assistance in getting
my beloved 1000 repaired after my son zapped Port #2 with a static electric
charge. Netlanders were most helpful in diagnosing the exact chip to be
replaced (74LS157) but the replacement of this chip was significantly beyond
my prior soldering experience, so I was forced to seek out professional help.

A good friend (and fellow Amiga user) recommended "The Computer Doctor" in
Stroudsburg, PA 717-992-3800 and I would like to pass these folks on to
all those in the area who may need work done on their Amiga or other
computer equipment.

The co-owners, George Wakefield and Pat Fallon, are Amiga users and have a
real interest in serving the customer (a rare trait today). I requested
that they let me know when they could service my machine so that I did not
lose a week or more waiting for them to look at it, and they called me within
a week for me to bring it in. They had the machine back to me in a total of
3 working days. During that time they replaced the blown chip (and socketed
the new one for ease of replacement in the future), checked drive alignment,
and cleaned the inside of the monitor. Total repair bill, $54.06. This is
in comparison to a $50.00 bench fee charged by two different "Authorized
Service Centers" that I checked with.

Hopefully, none of you will require professional repair services, but if
you do I personally recommend "The Computer Doctor".

DISCLAIMER: Other than being a satisfied customer, I have no legal, moral,
ethical, financial or other connection to "The Computer Doctor" that
you care to name!
