So, is anyone here on QuantumLink? I've been thinking about
getting on there. Last time I looked it was $10/month, flat. You need
a C64 to run it (I have one), but I understand there are Amiga
discussion groups and download files. How do they measure up?
I'm losing my Usenet access soon :-( as graduation approaches.
I've heard there are 'public' usenet nodes but haven't really
investigated. If BIX is now that cheap maybe I should just go on there.
(What is the cost/prereqs to get on the BIX developers' conferences?)

I believe it's still $10 a month, but also 8 cents a minute for what
they call "Plus Services" (i.e. everything except their lame excuse for
an encyclopedia). Even mail and Online Messages cost now....
and of course, you're limited to 1200 baud.

Not to mention that you have to use their horrible software, which (no lie)
is actually written to be slow.

The amiga and amiga.dev conferences are open to all, and include listings
sections with files to download. The amiga.com conference is "closed", and
access is given only to commercial developers.

While I won't comment on the quality of Q'link's discussion groups, I can
talk about thier rate structure. You pay about $10.00 a month no matter
how much you use the system. For that fee you get (last time I checked)
1 hour (that is one) of "free" time. After that hour is up, you get charged
a fee per minute for most of the areas you enter. There are many free areas
on Q'link but if you want to talk with people or download anything (except
for some files directly related to Q'link) you are paying. I think the charge
comes out to about $6.50 or more per hour you spend in the plus areas.
