I have a TVI-950 terminal, with a very noisy flyback transformer. A bang on the side helps quiet it for a few minutes, but soon the whine returns. I am sensitive to this type noise, and would like suggestions for getting rid of it. Someone suggested dripping candle wax on the thing; would this both work and help? I don't want any future fire or electrical problems.. Ideas? Greg Guthrie BTL IW 1A444 x7303

There is a 'high voltage dope' that I used to use for this problem when I worked in a TV repair shop. Just coat it a time or two real heavy. The stuff is real nasty so it might not be availible to the public. If you have a friend that works in an electronics shop somewhere, he might have a bottle of it sitting around. I don't think the wax will cause too much of a fire hazard. Flybacks do get hot, but the wax will drip off first.
